Tarmac Meditations – Walkin’ Not Drivin’

February 5, 2011 By longrun Leave a Comment

Walked to my Saturday meeting…just to see. It was fine. exercise with a purpose beyond exercise.(Walkin’ not Drivin’) No bigger than that. I’ll look for more opportunities for that kind of experience without sacrificing efficiency in the day, compromising time management( writing time) or over doing the build up to training.

Tarmac Meditations – Amazon Walk – 60 Minutes

February 4, 2011 By longrun Leave a Comment

Met up with Richard-walked steady state, easy pace, no pain(Amazon Walk) …talked about book book proposals and staying steady while waiting. Walking as rest, walking as aerobic base building, wal.king as discipline, walking as baby steps..first you walk, then you run…this year will be about building blocks, one thing on another ie. injury prevention is built on doing what is possible, extending it based on sound advice-sequential step exercises for example…push up into hands and knees-extend into plank using glute muscles re creares running motion without impact. Additional movements will add strength and flexibilty before adding running to the walking. One step at a time, one day at a time , building brick by brick, bird by bird ( Anne Lamott).

TM-Sunday Jan. 30, 2011-Martin Trail

January 31, 2011 By longrun Leave a Comment

Met up with Markus and Richard at 6:00 AM. Headlamps, trail shoes, a plan to summit the Butte ( for them) and and  a steady uphill climb for me. Did not have my A game today.Tough going. hard to warm up, to catch a rhythm. Even so made the top of the hill in good time, set out across the road and added another quarter mile to the distance over last week’s venture. The very good news is that the turnaround came five minutes earlier…less time, more distance.( Martin Run )This is how weight loss and aerobic training are meant to work. Turned off the head lamps on the way down. Richard and I talked quietly when necessary and crossed the little creek with no slip ups. Markus stayed on the hill to make the full run. Richard and I grabbed  coffee at the Hideaway, discovered that Nicole, the sunday morning barista extraordinaire, who appears to be twenty -two has twin boys to go with her great smile. Shot the JHMT training run and said hello to my “sunday morning is almost over” nap.
