Tarmac Meditations #162: I’m, like, so visual

Road-Trip: Victoria
Road-Trip: Victoria

Went for a longish Sunday walk/run and remembered some other walks/runs in the forest; one of them looked like this creek; another was quiet like a branch on Sunday morning.

Tarmac Meditations #161: A small step for mankind but a huge step for me

July 25, 2015 By Michael Lebowitz 1 Comment

Yesterday, I didn’t know which way was up… This morning, someone bought this image from my website.

This is the first time that I have sold a non-race event photo on the internet. I am grateful for the sale. Something like this can seriously improve a guy’s outlook. The buyer bought a 16 x 24 Giclée Canvas (stretched). First time for one of those too. This kind of support and acknowledgment of my efforts over the years makes me happy.

Tarmac Meditations #160: A better way to greet the day. At long last.

July 9, 2015 By Michael Lebowitz 1 Comment

Couldn’t sleep, the night terrors are about the usual and what to do next. So I got up, made coffee and walked the neighborhood hills slowly and quietly in the the pre-dawn… first time in almost a year to be out before sunrise, stayed in the good Heart Rate Zone, said “Hey” to the paper guy as I cruised by. I felt a whole lot better. I saw the the western ridge glowing as if washed in waves of orange and purple fire. A better start to the day! It has been a while. Hoping today is a good day for all of us.

Tarmac Meditations #159: “Put me in, Coach. I’m ready to play.”

May 22, 2015 By Michael Lebowitz 2 Comments

In the last weeks I shot three events, two of them back to back. First time in two years that I have been healthy enough to get out of the door and do this thing I love to do. Maybe things are turning around. Whatever it is, I’m committed to staying out of my own way, and to keepin’ my “head in the game and my eye in the lens.” I don’t see that I have any other choice but to “keep on keepin’ on.”

Shot another race event today. Felt like old times. Worked hard, got paid, got home safe. The image is of the mornin’ fog at the race location. Damn, I love this stuff.

I’m tired, wore out in truth, but I feel good about the weekend’s work output. I appreciate the support andgenerosity of the people in the Trail running community who make my efforts seem worthwhile to me as i do my level best to keep on keepin’ it real.

Start of Mac Forest 50 K yesterday in Black and White (because that’s how it feels to me). It was a wonderful event on a wonderful day for it. Like the old rock and roll dudes would have said, “Felt like home to me.” Grateful barely describes it: thanks again to all y’all and particularly to Ken Ward and Dennis Gamroth, the Rd’s, for the opportunity to get back on the field.

Tarmac Meditations #158: Walking Downtown Streets With a Camera

Matthew

I used to run here from my house on the south side of town. I usually took the creek route through the park. The other day I found myself in a very different part of town,I was driving to the Hispanic grocery store and tortilla factory for no good reason when I stopped, parked the car, and got out.

I guess I had seen this guy sitting in a Godard-like frame

across the street from where I had stopped. I decided to take my camera out of the car and started shooting. Eventually I went over to get closer (I was using a 50-mm prime lens) to Matthew, from Michigan, as he introduced himself. We chatted for a moment while I took more images. He didn’t mind the camera and when I left he said, “Thank you for inquiring” after his well

being. He said, “Not every one does that,” and he appreciated being treated like a person despite his circumstances. I had had no idea what to say in response so I nodded and smiled and wished him good luck for later that day as it was getting colder. He smiled and said he would be all right and I went on my way, strangely buoyed up by the encounter. Later, as I was falling asleep I offered up a request to the powers that might be that Matthew be okay. I went back the next day. He wasn’t there. Nor have I seen him since. Maybe he is alright. I hope so.
