Tarmac Meditations-Running After Daylight

November 1, 2010 By longrun Leave a Comment

running - after daylightAnother long night. Did not want to run this this morning. Did the usual time waste-email, facebook, coffee, revenge fantasies and global domination. Checked out Jon Stewart in Washington. Went to a meeting. Shared a little about not seeing what is in front of you, about how hard it is to decide that the devil you know has had its time and like that-addiction writ large. Came home and laced up. Needed the miles. Saw the trees, the changing colors, the Japanese maples, the patch of blue in the rolling clouds, the ridgeline in the fog; heard the kids pour out onto the track for recess(?) laughing and racin’ around. Ran slow though I have to say that i kicked some old dude’s butt( truth? he was 111 and using a walker but a win is where you find it I was thinking until I looked back and saw his face…he was pissed and I thought I knew why…the years were on him and some jack ass was passing him by…he could have kicked ass not that long ago or maybe it was longer ago but no matter…maybe he was just in pain with the age of it…so I smiled a reassuring smile…and by his reaction I realized I had forgotten my front “flipper” temporary front teeth…no win here so I went on). Finished up with some good strides and another uphill climb. After daylight-something to be said for it.
